Every year, Fashion Weeks cause a stir in the fashion world and here go a few interesting facts. The first rows at the Fashion Weeks are in high demand from members of the high society. Nowhere else do so much elegance, different styles and famous designers come together as in times of Fashion Weeks.
The Big Four
The most important and largest Fashion Weeks take place twice a year in Paris, Milan, New York, and London.
These Fashion Weeks determine the upcoming trends and shape the style. This is an important opportunity for models and celebrities, in particular, to find out about the new fashion trends and how to become a style expert.
Since when Fashion Weeks are hosted?
To better understand the meaning of Fashion Weeks, we need to look a little closer at historey.
When Charles Frederick Worth founded the first fashion house in Paris in 1858, he changed the world of fashion fundamentally. Worth was also the first to show off his fashion creations on a model. His wife Marie was one of the first models ever.
One of the most influential fashion weeks is therefore still in Paris today. The 'Haute Couture' is a trend-giver with its creations and is an inspiration for the entyre fashion industry. 'Haute Couture' means the "sophisticated art of tailoring" with luxurious materials, used for tailor-made crafted fashion. The fashion of the "Haute Couture" is therefore in the top price segment. Few fashion houses may call their fashion creations "haute couture", such as Chanel and Dior.
The Paris Fashion Week is the highlight and finale
1943 was also another important year for the fashion world. The fashion journalist Eleanor Lambert was in New York for the first Fashion Week, then named "Press Week". Their goal was to divert attention away from the fashion metropolis of Paris and towards the New York designers.
She has also succeeded in this, as New York is now one of the most important fashion capitals besides Paris and is the first city to open Fashion Weeks every year.
The Haute Couture in Paris
Haute Couture in Paris is a show of its own, which starts before the actual Paris Fashion Week and took place last year already on 22.01.2018 to 25.01.2018.
Only a very limited number of successful and prominent women fill the front rows of the shows of Armani, Chanel, and Dior. Examples include Diane Kruger, Cate Blanchett, Emily Blunt and Rita Ora.
This time, the fashion houses focused on an especial lot of elegance. Chanel, Givenchy or Elli Saab in particular presented flowing fabrics and noble embroidery. Designer Karl Lagerfeld gave Chanel fashion pastel shades at this occasion and also opted for integrated sequins. Beyond the pure facts, it's this what contributes to the fascination about Fashion Weeks.
