Whether in our private or professional life, stress is almost omnipresent in this day and age. Many of us are continually suffering from stress and are often unaware of it. Even in the model business, stressful situations are nothing out of the ordinary. Managing stress is all the more important in order to get relaxed through every situation.
What is stress and what can be done about it?
Stress is not always bad. Stress only getting us unhealthy, is an old myth.
According to Hans Selye, a Hungarian-Canadian researcher, there are two types of stress - positive stress and negative stress (distress).
Positive stress (eustress) encounters us in many situations. For example, during sports, the stress hormone adrenaline is released, which makes us more powerful.
Eustress makes us more efficient and is a short challenge that still needs to be overcome by the organism. It promotes us and mobilizes all our energy reserves.
Distress, on the other hand, is a negative burden for the organism. Our body is exposed to this stress for a long period of time and does not know how to cope with it.
Distress also lacks the recovery phases to replenish our energy reserves.
Symptoms of distress: overwork, inhibition/blocking for certain tasks, irritability/anxiety, lack of drive, etc.
Distress can make you sick in the long run. You should keep this in mind.
But what can be done about it? With these tips, you can cope with stress.
Focus on just one thing
Don't try to do multiple things simultaneously, just focus on what you're doing right now! If you eat, for instance, eat in peace (without a mobile phone or reading by the side). Always focus on one task and then start with the next one!
Keeping order
Make a clean table! Always keep your workplace tidy and leave only the documents in front of you, which you really need.
It can also help if you plan your day or your whole week.
To-do lists are also very good. Write a list of tasks you're desperate to do every day and do them one by one.
But beware: don't worry too much!
Take time for yourself
Sometimes just turn off your phone and enjoy your time. You don't have to be constantly reachable.
When was the last time you just lay in bed at home and relaxed all day?
Take breaks
You think you don't have time for breaks? The more you need one!
Set your breaks and keep them. It is important that you take several breaks a day and really use them to switch off and relax.
Every small success matters
Celebrate even small successes! Once you've done a task, take a break and celebrate it! Be happy about what you have achieved and praise yourself!
Observe body language
It is very easy to spot a distressed person. Distressed people wear their shoulders slightly "higher" and have a tense jaw.
Consciously pay attention to your body and try to relax your body with breathing exercises!
We hope these few tips will help you in managing stress and to go relaxed through every situation in your day.
